| Greetings Ferret Friends! At long last! We finally put together a chart of shipping costs for some items to be sent outside the United States. We still have to add other items, but this is a start. The chart is in this newsletter and is also available at the Ferret Trading Post web site. It's Eric's birthday and we're celebrating by giving you $5.00 off the Super Monster Pack! See the information in this newsletter. Did you know that ferrets sometimes need a refresher course in litter training? See this newsletter's "Did You Know That..." for more information. --Mary

Notes From Mary I have a couple of things to share with you and I figure this is the most expeditious way to do it. Topical Index: I've made a topical index for the Ferret News web site. You can use it to quickly find the ferret information you're looking to find. Baseball Jerseys: You can still get baseball jerseys at FerretDesigns and AmysDesigns web sites -- but there's no telling for how long they'll continue to be available. If you were thinking about getting a ferrety baseball jersey, do it ASAP. Greek Week: Now this is kind of neat (well, to me it's neat). All this week the History Channel has had "Greek Week" in honor of the Summer Olympics. They've covered a lot of different information about Ancient Greece. On Tuesday they ran a piece on monsters and giants in Greek mythology. The piece featured a folklorist and author who had written an article about ferrets in Ancient Greece for Modern Ferret magazine in 1998. Dr. Adrienne Mayor has been doing research on fossil bones of prehistoric animals on the Greek Islands. It's a great thrill for me to see Dr. Mayor's research being covered in this documentary program. (Anyone who's familiar with Bob Church will get a kick out of this particular program.) Dr. Mayor's article in Modern Ferret magazine Issue #15, "Grecian Weasels," discusses some vase shards that depict ferrets in domestic situations in Ancient Greece. It's another point of proof of the early domestication of the ferret. Unfortunately, we can't run the article in the newsletter due to copyright laws, but you can get that issue of the magazine in the Super Monster Pack.
Just thought I'd share those things with you. I hope you have a great week. I'm going out to my brother's beach house this weekend to visit with family. The one drawback is that I have to leave Gabby at home. Life Is Better When You Hug a Ferret! --Mary

Did You Know That... Sometimes ferrets need litter "re-training." A litter trained ferret isn't necessarily litter trained for life. Adding a new ferret who is not well litter trained can untrain other ferrets in the group. Likewise, a sick ferret who has accidents can lead other ferrets in the group to do the same. The best way to avoid having to re-train your ferrets is to keep untrained or ill ferrets separate from the group until they are trained or recover from illness. Another cause of litter "untraining" is moving to a new home or giving your ferrets a new cage. Some ferrets will make the change without mishap; others will need to go through litter training boot camp. For complete information on ferret litter training, see FerretNews #57. You can also find articles about litter training in these issues of Modern Ferret Magazine: #13 (article by Bob Church), #14 (two articles by Christine Code and one article by Eric Shefferman), #17 (article by Mary R. Shefferman), #20 (article by Mary R. Shefferman), and #21 (article by Mary R. Shefferman). You can get all these issues, plus 23 more, in the Super Monster Pack.
Thanks for reading the FerretNews newsletter. Make sure you check out our new Topical Index to find the ferret information you need. --Mary, Eric, & Gabby (The Lone Modern Ferret)
